This memory box is custom made from Iroko with a curly poplar and Iroko lid. The hinges are high quality solid brass hinges with a built in stop. The box will hold memories for decades to come, with hand-cut dovetails on all corners and a beautiful oil/varnish finish.
Canarywood and yellowheart

This box is made of canary wood and yellowheart. Two sides are curved, the others square. In fact no two corners are the same. The lid, base and one corner are yellowheart and the sides are canarywood. The hinges are high quality solid brass hinges.

Working with found wood has its challenges. The available wood was very small, and the challenge was to make something from the limb of a walnut tree as a special memento of a client’s former property. I used a part of the limb that was ‘damaged’ by the loss of another branch creating the interesting hole in the box.
The live edge was kept in tact, and the ends dovetailed together to form the box. The ends and the back are book-matched to create the interesting design, and to make use of what little wood was available. An interesting conversation piece, the box can hang on a wall or sit on a table.
