Bulls Eye Buffet

Specifications

Measurements: 18”w x 48”l x 30”h

Project Description

This stunning buffet got its name from the colour, which is called “Bulls Eye Red”. It has a black glass top, and a high gloss finish that needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. This colour and the finish are both big parts of the design of the piece. The two drawers along the top are solid maple with dovetailed joinery and soft-close invisible slides. The four doors below push-to-open and soft-close hardware. The open area in the middle is also high gloss.

Beech Bench

Specifications

Measurements: 53” wide, 30” deep, 32” high
Material: Beech

Project Description

Lemonade from lemons: This front porch bench is made from four beech wood slabs recovered from a local tree that came down in the 2018 tornado. The challenge was to find all the parts from the four slabs. A design by the client was the start of a beautiful thing. There is not a single metal fastener in this bench. All the joinery is dovetails, and mortice and tenon. The tenons on the arms are wedged with walnut, the rear ones left proud. A mock-up of the ends, with a final fitting with the client allowed us to find all the parts in the four slabs. Lots of head-scratching involved, but it was worth it.

California Redwood

Measurements:

14”w x 32”d x 16”h when completed

Description

The challenge here is to figure out a design for the legs to complement the California redwood burl that will be the table top for a coffee table. In these photos I am trying to find a design that works with the shape and the character of the redwood burl, without the legs becoming the focal point. These mock – ups made of scrap wood are to help visualize the correct hight, spacing, angles and thickness of the legs. Sometimes the design process is the longest part of the job!
